“I have my life back"

My family and friends stood by and watched for years as my weight increased, my health decreased and I was forced to take more medication to balance out my body’s inability to function properly. After too many medications to count, I had worked my way down to my ‘core nine’ for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, iron and aspirin.  I thought everything would be fine and I was managing my health issues with medication. However, I knew deep down I was only fooling myself. Being overweight and in denial about my health, I had stayed clear of doctors to avoid being told I was overweight. I realize now I did so mostly because I was embarrassed.

My daughter begged me to go to the doctor with her. I finally agreed and realize now, it was the first day of my new life. It was a sobering day however. Because of my extremely high blood pressure, I was given the ultimatum to leave by ambulance or the office would send me to a family practice physician next door. This is how I came to Dr. Brouillette’s office and Nuviva Medical Weight Loss. I now see this as clear proof that everything happens for a reason!

I had tried different diet plans before without success and was skeptical that anything would actually work for me. But I asked questions and Nuviva sounded like a plan that I really could follow…no food bars or meal replacement drinks, but real food. I met Jeremy Avner, the Nutrition Coach, for my initial consultation. He told me I could do it and Nuviva could help. For the first time in a long time, I believed I could. I made my decision that day and my transformation began.

By my fifth week, my blood pressure medicines started to be adjusted. In what seemed like no time at all, I was weaned off of all blood pressure medicine! Next, I didn’t need the blood sugar medications. It was incredible…my body was finally able to work the way it should. Last was my cholesterol medication. I was actually able to cut back and eventually eliminate those as well. Just 6 months after I began the Nuviva program, I have lost 120 pounds and no longer take any medications!

I am so thankful to have my life back. You don’t realize how bad you felt until you feel so good. I have a new found energy and I am enjoying all the little things in life that I lost along the 20 years I have been very overweight. I can now shop for clothes in any store I want. I just recently flew on a plane and didn’t have to ask for a seat belt extension and could actually use my lap tray. I don’t have to worry about requesting a table at a restaurant because a booth was too tight. I can go on any rides I want at the theme parks!

As I continue my journey I am confident that I can achieve all my weight loss goals because I am now equipped with the knowledge to do so. The information I have learned about healthy eating, exercise and how my body works is priceless and will carry me through the rest of my many days.

I thank Nuviva, Dr. Brouillette, Jeremy, Stephanie and all the staff. Their support, encouragement and shared knowledge is second to none. Believe it or not, I look forward to my weekly visit. I leave every week feeling good and ready to face the next week’s goal! They make me feel like one of the family, and not once did I feel uncomfortable or out of place. So, I say thank you again and again for showing me how to turn my life around and giving me a brand new healthy one!
